Guy From A Squib
Percy Cruckshank created this illustration for a squib written by Horace Mayhew. The Street guy on the cover is typical of the floppy type. He holds the proper symbols- lantern and matches but not much attempt is made at making him look at all real. Perhaps he is intended to be more of a pantomime Fawkes than a real one. Note how the feet turn different directions. This illustration is from 1849. Note that there is nothing remaining of the traditional mask design. Go here for the whole squib click here.
