Irish Storytelling-
Our philosophy of Irish
Storytelling combines entertainment with stepping into and
joining the Irish Storytelling Tradition.
We are well known for our
many stories which range from the long ancient tale to the short one minute
tale. Audience interaction is the key to our
success. Our goal is to install a few stories in the minds of the
audience members while providing for an entertaining experience.
We also take special care to make sure that the participant is able to
continue in pursuit of their interests after the initial experience. Therefore, our programs never end.
They continue with the aid of our many handouts and bibliographies. We generally
try to combine crafts and folk music with our
storytelling sessions. Our strong command of the material can be seen in
our many professional publications in the field. We can
offer several types of program- but let these be only your inspiration
as we will work with you to design the program which is right for you.

Class: Myths and Legends of Ancient Ireland-
This class works on several dimensions to bring adults and young adults
into the Irish Tradition. On one level we search for meaning in the ancient
tales. This is done with reference to the interpretations of important
scholars. Once we have an idea of what it is all about we move on to the
mechanics of the tradition. Students learn the typical forms, idioms, and
structures of the tradition. A little bit of everything is brought to each
class session. This includes the short knowledge of proverbs, toasts, triads
and ranns as well as short five minute tales. Each session explores one
major tale which is told by class members as they enter the tradition for
themselves. In the last class students have a chance to tell a tale which
they have composed themselves in the Irish Tradition. Where possible a
full Irish tea time is created for the break. Course Duration- 8- two hour
sessions.Orn as long as you would like.

around the celebration of the seasons of the year. Each season has its

the traditional Irish year demonstrating the related crafts, preparing
the foods, singing the songs and acting out the rituals. This is a good
way to understand the many dimensions of traditional Ireland. A good way
to rediscover lost folk ways and incorporate them into daily life. Also
good preparation for travel to Ireland. Recommended course duration - 5

Journey
to An Irish Pub-We begin our journey with an orientation to the Irish
pub. Students spend the first half of the class in the classroom experiencing the music
and atmosphere of the pub in the class room with the aid of video, overhead
slides and music. We discuss the many types of pubs.
Students learn about the
sociology and anthropology of drinking in Ireland and how it relates to
the culture itself. The history of the pub is explored and students are
equipped with all the popular songs, toasts and sayings. Next we
learn how the many types of Irish drink are
created. Following an authentic
Irish Tea time specifically provided for designated drivers we drive to
the pub for the second half of our journey. Once at the pub
over dinner we discuss games and pub lore before exploring the world of the
little people. The night ends with a typical Irish after dinner
historical presentation following which students move out into the culture
itself as the live music begins.
Recommended Course duration-
