Wassail is currently a tradition practiced
around the world. Through time the various components of wassail have been created by specific groups
in specific regions. While the toast is derived from the languages of Scandinavia activities such as caroling
with drink from door to door or, passing the loving cup or bowl from person to person in the hall, or blessing
of apple trees with song and drink were created or added elsewhere. Whether these customs were freshly
created by local people or if they were picked up from the assorted remnants of past cultures we shall never
know.  What we do know is that the custom which has evolved through time is a wonderful human achievement
and that there are regional manifestations of the tradition which are special treasures. Here we have provided
maps indicating the places associated with the tradition or at least with the songs. Several things these places
do share in common: Good Ale, Apples, Cider, and a liberated concept of celebration. Who could ask for more!
