Building the Guy
This image possibly from a 19th century calendar shows boys making a masked guy in the tradition of the Harlequin.
This influence comes from the Pantomime and Toy/Tabletop theatre tradition of the mid 19th century. In the pantomime
Guy Fawkes changes into the character Harlequin who is customarily dressed with bows, ribbons and bright colors. Note also
that none of the participants wear masks and that the mask style is complete- even includes pipe.
