Two aspects of our Celebration
These boys are having a grand time. They are carrying off the image of Guy Fawkes to
collect their penny's. But, are they the Royal soldiers or are they assembled as plotters?
There is the custom of extracting money from local passers-by. Perhaps they are in fact
plotters who just aren't taking on the government at the moment? Perhaps they are about to
explode the gunpowder that Fawkes was unable to detonate!??! Note in this early view that
Fawkes is presented realistically and one might say even in a dignified manner. There is no mask concept.
