Welcome to the Gunpowder Plot Pages!
The Internet's  Most Important Source for the Study of the Gunpowder Plot, Its      Commemoration and Times
New! The Book of Guy Fawkes Day and its Bonfire night now out- the most important collection of primary documents and study of the celebration ever done click here

The focus of these pages is the Celebration of the defeat of terror in 1605. It is very important to understand that celebration comes after the fact. For celebration the most important facts are the perceived views of specific times and places. The official perceived views of the King's Book which served as the first detailed account of the plot structured the first celebrations and informed the artifacts of celebration which were selected to mark the observances. Popular interpretations of the plot and of Guy Fawkes changed frequently. Therefore, we are not concerned here so much with factual history but with changing interpretations. We are also dedicated to the discovery. documentation and  preservation of the artifacts of celebration and therefore we encourage you to apply these customs and traditions in your celebrations today. To begin however, few hard facts might be helpful. The historical Gunpowder Plot of 1605  was a multifaceted Catholic conspiracyContemporary
Portrait of the Plotters, a part of the counter-reformation directly known to  and tolerated by the leading Jesuits in England.  The plot was designed   to commit terrorism in England by Guy Fawkes and other Catholics motivated by religious persecution, financial reward and political power.  The plot and its discovery is  celebrated worldwide with bonfires and fireworks. Many aspects of the plot and its discovery can be celebrated. There is no one true path. But there should be a place for everyone to this universal celebration of the defeat of terror.
